Web design means a lot these days. The times where Internet was not available for everyone are long gone and because of this a lot of people wants to make money on the Internet one way or another. Every year the Internet suffers transformation and when I’m saying this I mean as design but as well as programming; everything changes or better say ‘evolves’.

Web2.0

When web 2.0 appeared a lot of the newest designers in business took advantage of it to make some money promising a lot but what they have done after a while they found out that was in fact not web 2.0 at all because web 2.0 doesn’t always mean gradients, transparent boxes, round boxes, big fonts, helvetica and much, much more. All this came with time not like a wave striking the Internet as many might think. Web 2.0 also means simplicity and minimal and more users tend to like this more and more , why ? Well because user-friendly websites are a lot more popular and memorable.

The importance of Twitter

The perfect example for my statement is Twitter. What’s easier than Twitter ? And everyone is using Twitter like an addiction because this is what it is. A simple, easy to use system website that make people addicted to it. On Twitter everyone matters, everyone is important in a way or another; they know that their followers listen to what they say, their thoughts , their memories, everything is important and shared with everyone. I’m not against Twitter, not at all! For designers it’s really important because they spread the news, they advertise their newest posts, newest creations and a lot more, so Twitter is an advertising method as well.

When do we need SEO, and why?

Most of the blogs on the Internet are about design, inspiration, and advertising(SEO mostly). SEO became really important in the last years because of the variety and the multitude of website niches around the Internet. To make your website/blog popular you really need to hire a SEO expert to do that for you. Being on the first page on Google for certain keywords it’s really important and can decide the faith of your Internet business (if it is profitable or not). Of course everyone wants to make money on the Internet and that’s why SEO it’s so popular and expensive. A good web designer doesn’t really need SEO for their blog because the web design network is so spread around the Internet and there are a lot of connections between most of those blogs; by this I refer to blogroll and the fact that a good web designer has lots of other designers as their friends on the Internet. Collaboration it’s really important these days.

For a web designer social websites are vital, without them they cannot be seen and their work would stay undiscovered. As I mentioned earlier Twitter is really important for a web designer and a vital element in their work. Other social websites that web designers use are Facebook, Digg, de.licio.us, StumbleUpon, GoogleBuzz and different others that works in the web design domain article publishing. I mentioned these because everyone knows about them and there are not only used on web design marketing business. If you are a web designer and a good article writer these websites can get you a lot of readers and those readers, if they like what they read, they can become permanent readers of your blog by subscribing.

Being up to date with what’s happening in design world is also really important so web designers subscribe to a lot of other related websites/blogs so they can receive fresh news and even publish the most important ones on their blog, or tweet about them so other people (their followers) knows that the news is important. This is the way that an article becomes popular on the web.

Logo design

There are several subdomains of these major web design domain and that includes logos, websites, print design, illustrations, mascots, icons and other minor ones. In my opinion logo design domain is the most spread and after that website design, but the web designers that can work in these two domains and they do it well, they surely work in the other domains as well because most of the time all of this comes like a package.

Why logo design became so popular in the last 2-3 years ? Well, in my opinion a logo it’s really important to the image of your company. When people look at the website/company logo, they must see the website/company itself so that’s why a logo it’s so important. And it’s really good that a lot of business owners become more and more interested in having a good logo done for them. This is the reason why contest website became so popular all the sudden. A lot of the customers that need a logo done for them they want to see their logo before they pay the money and this is not all the time good for the designers but they still do it so they can get better and when they win something this stimulates them to do more and better designs. A designer that evolve this way, they get used with the clients and sometimes it’s good because the clients can be very picky and they don’t know what they really want until that designer does it. Because of these design websites, logo design became so popular and with it inspiration websites. They are really important for a designer of any kind. You see what other designers did and you say ‘Wow! This looks awesome, I hope one day I can be as good as he is’ and so a designer is pushed and motivated and one day it really does great stuff that impress other young designers as well. This is a circle that can never be broken because this happens in every work domain but the design domain is the perfect one to mention in this case because it can be ‘seen’.

Website Design

Website design is the second major subdomain of web design. The only ‘problem’ with it is that a designer have to be a programmer in the same time but many times this is very useful. Most designers work with programmers and that’s not always the best solution because a designers vision it’s really important and a programmers can’t always understand a designers vision. If time is a problem, sure, this is the best solution, a team of designers and programmers working together to make a project come true, but in this case they are in the same room and this is really important so they can share ideas a lot better than over Internet as a lot of people work.

Every designer felt that satisfaction when he finished a project. But it’s not the satisfaction that the work it’s done, it’s because you see the client is happy with what you did for him and that is what matters most, to make the client be satisfied with the work that you provided. This way you can say proudly ‘See that ? It’s done by me!’, every designers dream is to say that one day with pride in it’s voice. The way that designers show their work is by portfolios and there are several websites that take care of this and also forms a community of designers where they can talk to each other, create bounds and collaborate on future projects. It’s a really good thing because the collaboration between designers can do a lot more for a client (2 pairs of eyes are better than 1) because two visions combined can deliver a lot more than just one. The idea is the most important step in a project; without it you have no project. But when the idea is found/discovered you must have the skills to make it real! For a client time is really important so a designer must always respect the deadline or else their client loses money (time means money – works in every business domain in the world).

Inspiration…we all need it

I wrote earlier about inspiration but I forgot to mention that inspiration can’t always be found on the Internet. The best inspiration of all you get from real life. This is proven every day by a lot of photographers that find their inspiration mostly in real life but sometimes they can find it on the Internet as well and by this I mean techniques, tips and tricks to get the best out of a photo because digital manipulation it’s really important these days. All the magazines rely on this digital manipulation over their photos. When you edit a photo you make it come to life or the opposite, you make it colorful or dark, cold or warm, there are so many possibilities and a photo that does not look good at all as original it can look awesome digitally edited.

In this post I think I covered most of the web design domains that I find interesting too discover (if you didn’t discover them yet) and these are also the domains in which I work and day by day I find new stuff and this is what I like about it, the things that I will discover in future. For example sometimes I look at my first works that I have done and I say ‘How could I do such a thing ? (messy colors, seamless shapes, crappy fonts, etc.)’ but then I think that all of us started at a point with ‘ugly’ designs just like me and now I’m proud of what I have done that time because evolving I became what I am today.
