You want to match the logo with the logotype perfectly, flawless but in many cases that is wrong because a surprising and memorable logo must stand out with or without the logotype. Of course the logotype is very important also, it completes the logo and make it look good and a custom logotype is even better than just a font you found/bought on the Internet. Lots of designers modify the fonts to match their logo; this is the best thing to do if you don’t find what you want on the Internet. Colors used in a logo design are very important; the colors make the logo stand out properly. But also remember a logo has to look good in black and white also, so don’t rely only on colors when you design a logo. When you finish a logo make sure it looks nice without colors also and if it does then you have a really nice logo. When you design a logo don’t use more than 3-4 colors or gradients. Simplicity is everything (remember a logo has to be memorable) so don’t make it look crowded. If you design a mascot, well that is a different thing, you will have to use a lot of shadows, have a color scheme in mind and there you must pay attention to details because that mascot has to stand out among other mascots.

The way you present the logo to your clients is very important! Use stationary sample and other marketing materials so the client make an idea about how the logo will look like on different materials, even on t-shirts and other clothing. When you start building the presentation for the logo keep in mind the theme of the logo. For example if it is for a restaurant or a bar you can include some t-shirts, mugs, the logo and the logotype in front of the restaurant/bar and many other things. I can assure you this will attract your client and he will like your logo a lot if you do it well.
