You have a big design project and you must be really creative, but you lack of ideas. How many times this happened to you ? And how many times happend to find the idea of what you do just looking around ? It happens because of the environment you work in. Some people prefer a simple, clean desk, dual monitors some box with pens, maybe a tablet; but there are people that really like having a lot around them and to some eyes all that seems mess, but not for them. So tell me or show me, how is your desk looking like ?

There are some designers I know that literally work in nature. They get their laptop, go to a park and start working on something. They get the inspiration from nature which is great because sometimes I go to my window and just look around for ideas. It may seem a little too easy but there are times when the lack of idea persist and I go for a walk in a park, to a coffee shop and try to assemble a good idea in my head. Where do you go when you lack of ideas ?

Another thing I like to do when I need an idea is to look around the web at inspirational websites or blog posts. They really help because I see what other designers do and inspire (not copy of course) from colors, styles or many other things that look interesting to me. The design domain it really is like fashion. You see what everyone does and you see what styles people like. For example every year people like different styles in terms of design. What do you do to get a great idea ?

I really wanted to ask you guys these three questions because I would love to know some other opinions in this matter.

I prefer the second and the third picture.

An uncluttered office space is essential for every creative web designer. It is for me. My mind is mess when my desk is a mess.

you are right, it’s not a good think having a mess on your desk while you design

My desk is tidy. Sort of neat (bit dusty). I try my best to keep my desk clutter free as much as possible, stowing away papers & DVDs in the drawers below. I use a CRT monitor so that takes up a lot pf precious space. My tablet rests on an open drawer under which I got my pencils & colors.
Usually I surf the net in case of a creative block when I am in office. Otherwise I just try to ‘sleep over it’.
I listen to Music for inspiration. Because I believe music is a huge driving factor for any artist. Also movies or novels. You never know when simple line from a book might just strike that much needed idea in you.

Thanks for sharing your points too! Always interesting to know how other designers work :)
